Whether or not this is a factory defect, or a defect in my feeder alone, I don't know, but I do know that I wasted my 35 dollars and have to buy a different (hopefully better) feeder. When washing out the ruined seed, water will freely pour out the bottom of the feeder. The only thing I could see where this could possibly happen is at the bottom, which, by the company's description, has a "threaded base", so it's possible that water can seep up through those holes. I've had 2 whole feeders' full of seed (and as everyone knows, it is very expensive) ruined by water & had to clean it all out, dry out the feeder, & then refill it. But the deal breaker is that somehow, water gets into the seed during heavy rains. ![]() Initially I didn't like the fact that there are only 3 perches instead of the usual 4 that could have easily been added towards the top, so less birds can feed at one time on this feeder.
